The ASUS ROG Maximus Z690 Hero Is Armed With Five M.2 Ports 2

Not To Mention Seven USB 3.2 Gen 2 And A Pair Of Thunderbolt 4 Ports

Setting up the ASUS ROG Maximus Z690 Hero, if you are planning on populating everything, will take a bit of work as there are only so many PCIe lanes to go around but worth it if you have several Optane and NVMe drives you want to set up.  There are few motherboards that offer this many options for the new standard in storage, making it not only attractive to gamers but also for professionals that need vast quantities of high speed storage.

It offers both WiFi 6 and Intel 2.5Gbe network connections, opting to drop a second LAN port for the aforementioned drives and USB ports.  As for PCIe slots, there are two PCIe 5.0 16x slot and a single PCIe 4.0 16x, which is limited providing 4x so you have space to add an NVMe expansion card in addition to your GPU, if you so desire.

As this is a DDR5 version of a Z690 motherboard Tweaktown tested with Crucial’s DDR5 5200MHz 32GB CL38 and saw impressive performance compared to other Z690 motherboards thanks to well implemented XMP support.  Check out the rest of the features as well as the performance results in their full review.
