Battlefield 2042 May Be A 128 Player Cluster … 2

They Swear It Is Game Engine Footage, But Not From A Single Player Campaign

The trailer bears a stamp claiming it is footage from the game engine, but it is somewhat hard to figure out where it might have come from seeing as how DICE have dumped the single player campaign completely so source of the teaser is unknown.  As is tradition the game is set in a dystopian near future, specifically 21 years from now and involves refugee soldiers fighting for an embattled US or a tired Russia.  The biggest difference we know of at this time is that the number of players have doubled to 128 on PC and modern consoles, which will make things even more chaotic than previous games.  PlayStation 4 and Xbox One owners will still be limited to 64.

You might be a refugee conscripted into a rag tag army but that doesn’t stop you from picking one of ten new specialist classes, with a bizarre array of tools more reminiscent of a single player game.  Grappling hooks, wingsuits and robotic dogs armed to the teeth will make this game quite different from previous games and even though you don’t have the infrastructure or manufacturing capabilities of a modern army, apparently there will still be new high tech vehicles to pilot.

The plot of the game revealed by Ars Technica is best described as a pathetic attempt to include some sort of story into the game, and apparently DICE will drop ‘nuggets’ of details while you are playing; perhaps it is for the best that there is no single player.  Rock, Paper, SHOTGUN spotted a new game type called Hazard Zone, but apart from being a high stakes squad based map there was no other information forthcoming.

Also missing was a detailed look at the server browser, which one hopes is improved from the previous games.
