There's a Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night sequel in the works 2

According to 505 Games’ latest financial results.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, the acclaimed 2019 Castlevania spiritual successor from Koji Igarashi and developer ArtPlay, is getting a sequel.

That’s according to a single, and only mildly informative, slide found within publisher 505 Games’ latest fiscal year financial results presentation (as spotted by Gematsu) – which, as well as noting that Bloodstained has now sold more than 1m copies, amassing over €30m in sales, confirms a “second version” is currently in development.

As Gematsu points out, “second version”, although a somewhat unusual turn of phrase in this context, appears throughout the presentation in conjunction with other properties that have confirmed sequels, such as One More Level’s action-parkour game Ghostrunner.

Unfortunately, 505 offers no additional details on its Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night sequel in its report, but it’s possible, if not extremely likely, that’ll we’ll be hearing more about the project over the next few weeks as we communally tumble headfirst into the announcement quagmire that marks the run-up to E3 and beyond.

A potential Bloodstained follow-up is, however, an exciting proposition; the first game, despite a few rough edges – and that troubled Switch port – was an enormously entertaining affair, particularly for fans of Konami’s long-dormant Castlevania series. Eurogamer even gave it a Recommended badge, calling it a “gorgeous, accessible 2D platformer stuffed with nostalgia”.

Hopefully it won’t be too long before 505 Games is ready to share more.
