Samsung Has Some Fabulous News About The Second Half Of 2021 2

Also Had A Great Q1, Even With The Texas Flood

Samsung’s Pyeongtaek Line 2 will be ready for mass production of 5nm and 7nm in the second half of 2021, to help feed the pent up demand for silicon world wide.  This new line in their South Korean fab will also likely be the testing ground for sub-5nm EUV processes, which Samsung seems to be devoting a lot of energy to be the first to market.

This is an extension to an existing fab, one currently focused on LPDDR5, part of the reason why they feel confident that the new line will be up and running barely a year after construction started.  The new line will produce a variety of components, including chips for HPC networking, automotive and of course a wee bit of the 5G.

The storms in Texas took down Samsung’s fab in Austin, however even still they were able to increase their total revenue by 6.2% from Q4 2020 for a new all-time Q1 high of $59 billion USD, which translated to $8.4 billion USD profit.  When you compare year to year profitability Samsung saw revenue increae by 18.2%, which is impressive considering the challenges of the past year.  Let’s hope that this helps ensure more availability for a variety of products towards the end of this year and the beginning of 2022.
