Lenovo’s AMD Powered P620 HEDT 2

Threadripper Pro, Radeon Pro W5700 And Lots Of RAM

If you are looking for a serious workstation to take care of some heavy lifting but aren’t quite ready to start shopping for an EPYC or Xeon powered system, then Lenovo might have a solution for you with their new P620.  Inside the unassuming looking ThinkStation you will find a 32-core Threadripper Pro 3975WX, 128GB of DDR4-3200MHz ECC in 8-channel mode, a Radeon Pro W5700 with 8GB GDDR6 and a WD SN730 256GB NVMe SSD.

Kitguru had some questions about the cooling on the interior, especially the choice to go with a shroud with a 40mm fan on the memory as opposed to just beefy heatspreaders.  The heatsink on the Threadripper also raised their eyebrows, Lenovo designed their own dual tower cooler which manages to keep heat reasonable but the system did show some signs of thermal throttling.

On the other hand the memory subsystem performs amazingly well, topping out on bandwidth and even scoring high on latency in spite of using ECC memory.  Check out the other benefits and drawbacks to this Lenovo workstation has in the full review.
