505 Games Is Publishing Suikoden Successor Eiyuden Chronicle, But A Switch Release Is TBC 2

Calling Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes’ Kickstarter campaign successful would be understating matters. A spiritual successor to Konami’s acclaimed JRPG series Suikoden, it reunites the former’s key developers and was first revealed back in August. Aiming for $500,000 in crowdfunding, they completely smashed this goal to reach a staggering $4.5 million.

News has been quiet since, but we’ve now got confirmation that 505 Games will publish this anticipated game in 2022. Confirmed within a new blog post and YouTube video, Rabbit & Bear Studios’ lead Yoshitaka Murayama advised:

We have dreamed of developing a game for genre fans for many years which also celebrates everything we love and have learned as game designers. Our team is looking forward to working with 505 Games to bring Eiyuden Chronicle to as many fans around the world as possible.

Eiyuden Chronicle is both a throwback to the classic RPG games that have entertained millions and a modern, exciting tale of discovery and adventure featuring a cast of hundreds of fully realized characters. Given their success and history with titles like Bloodstained and Death Stranding, and with the strong personal relationship we have developed with the people there, we feel we have the perfect partner in 505 Games.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t clarify whether Eiyuden Chronicle will launch on Switch. Rabbit & Bear previously outlined their concerns, stating that due to the Switch’s age and lower specs, that version could get dropped for Nintendo’s next-gen hardware closer to launch. However, given that Nintendo feels that the Switch is only half-way through its lifespan, a successor might not even be available by 2022.

Murayama outlined a familiar situation, one we’ve seen before with other Kickstarter games, so we can understand the hesitation. At the very least, we know Eiyuden Chronicle is coming to a Nintendo console.
